How do we deal with NARU'd members?

Are they still allowed to buy/sell?

Nope. They are not allowed to create a new ebay account under a different username/e-mail address. If you find the NARU'd seller/buyer using a new username, you can report them to eBay and this account will be suspended also.

if you have just bought from a seller who has then become NARU'd, you will receive an email from eBay about this and you will be advised not to send payment and continue with the transaction.

Hi beng, thank you for your 2 replies.

It is understandable that a newbie gets NARU'd. I had the experience of dealing with a few of them myself here on ebay ph.

What I cannot understand is on how someone with 250+ positive feedbacks suddenly gets NARU'd.

I am not privy to the whole story nor do I attempt to question ebay's decision on this matter. I've dealt with this particular seller and I could vouch for her sincerity. Communicated regularly, up until the time that I received the items, not knowing that she has already been NARU'd. She could have easily stopped sending me the items I've won but she was true to her word. To this seller, I would like to at least leave feedbacks.

And yet, there are those sellers, who's integrity has already been questioned and even mentioned several times on the boards and yet they do continue selling.

Reasons for seller being NARU:

Forgetting to pay their eBay bill (if they are selling on the paid sites).
Having an expired credit card on their ebay account.
Having a bad phone number on their account (false contact information).
Policy violations not related to fraud.
Having their account hijacked.

And a lot more reasons...

SHILL BIDDING - this is also a possible reason why a seller with high feedbacks can get NARU'd. Ebay has a very strong policy against members who let family members or friends bid/buy their items just so they could earn/exchange feedbacks. Or, as some people call it, Feedback Padding.

On a positive note, maybe this particular seller of yours just decided to end that particular seller ID and maybe started a new one that you just didn't find yet. Also, you can always ask the seller and you might get the concrete answer of her disappearance.

I also have the same question in mind with regards to one of my "friendly competitors" here that I thought was making good sales yet just get NARU'd.

:)

if someone receives an unpaid item strike, will he get NARU'd?

IF a member receives numerous strikes from different sellers, their account may be suspended.

Hi shopcebu4less,

Thanks for your comments. Just saw your posting on the other thread and hope that your problem will be looked into.

As you've posted on this thread,

"..On a positive note, maybe this particular seller of yours just decided to end that particular seller ID and maybe started a new one that you just didn't find yet. Also, you can always ask the seller and you might get the concrete answer of her disappearance."

On thing is certain, she just didn't end it. One just doesn't end and close an account with 250+ feedbacks. It would take me years to reach that level myself. Yes, I believe she has accepted the decision and is thinking to start all over again.

Before one gets NARU'd, are warning letters sent, at least, to advise that one has gone against policies.

ok, i can speak from experience here... one can always APPEAL a suspension. You are allowed 90 days to do so, after which the suspension becomes permanent.

i believe i'm not allowed to share the details but i can tell you that one of my selling accounts got NARU'd just last year... i'm still unsure of the exact reason for it but based on the requirements that were asked of me to get my accounts reinstated, I think one of the bots flagged my account because I used one of my US-registered accounts that has been inactive for 2 years to start selling on eBay.ph. I believe that indicated a possible hijacking so they immediately stopped all my auctions. and as a result, all my other buying, posting accounts and even my sister's account got NARU'd because we had the same first/last name and address. So what happens is all your other ebay accounts are likewise suspended.

i think sometimes you are given a warning, but it also happens without one, which was so in my case. Anyway, it took 2 weeks before i could get my accounts reinstated as your case goes into a queue for review... and all that takes some time.

So, this is all part of what the eBay Trust and Safety Team does to safeguard the community. One can get NARU'd without any warning whatsoever if they believe there is basis to do so. But, if you can disprove the reason for the suspension, you can get your accounts back up and running again. :-D

Hi bengc, I have a question related to your post earlier:

Nope. They are not allowed to create a new ebay account under a different username/e-mail address. If you find the NARU'd seller/buyer using a new username, you can report them to eBay and this account will be suspended also.

I had 2 recent transactions with buyers who were both NARU'd but are still active on Ebay.

CASE #1:
Ebayer A1 - I gave her a negative feedback months ago due to being an NPB. Put her on my blocked list. Then, she emailed me months after asking to give her another chance. Thinking she learned her lessons, I put her on my exemption list and let her bid. Then she won a couple of items from me and my sister and we waited for her to pay us but, thats' when she got NARU'd.

NOW, Ebayer A2 (0 feedback) bought my relisted items and I noticed the same pattern of how she handled our transaction with that of Ebayer A1's ways. To make the story short, Ebayer A2 was Ebayer A1's friend and she just let the latter used her account. When I asked A1 to pay me after a long overdue, she told me to deal with Ebayer A1 directly since she was the one who bid on the items in the first place. As nice as can be ;) I told her that such wasn't my business. Ebayer A2 has to deal with me since it was her username and contact information that was involved in that particular auction. I am done with Ebayer A1 & A2. Well, she got a negative feedback in the end.

CASE #2:
Ebayer B - She bought and paid item #1 on time. Won item #2 and after I sent her a UPI notice, she told me that she will back out of this transaction. Well, she promised to send payment when she first received my invoice but changed her mind. NOW, I was curios of this Ebayer's history, so I did a search on her and I found out that she was NARU'd last year due to many UPIs. Her name was all over the board before and I bet many of the oldies will remember her name.

QUESTION: Do you think these 2 Ebayers need to be reported? It's sad that some people just don't treat Ebay transactions seriously. I know that on CASE #1, I wasn't the only one who got the same experience. Some sellers even have a sadder experience with regards to this person.

As harsh as it sounds but I do give negative feedbacks to buyers who deserved it. Some sellers were hesitant to give negative feedbacks when in fact, doing so would only harm the "honest" selling community in the end.

Yes, report it. eBay has a very strict policy regarding that.

hi shopcebu...

kat has already answered your question - once a habitual NPB, always an NPB... and that's why they cannot be allowed to register again under another username.

and yes, i also believe strongly in giving negative feedbacks... not only is it therapeutic ]:), that is precisely what negs are for... to warn people that this person is a risk.

i never bothered to give a UPI before, until the new feedback policy came out that it protects me from a retaliatory neg from a non-respondent and non-paying bidder. Apart from the fact that it gave me back my FVF (which has no value on ebay.ph which is a free site), i really think it is spineless and useless as punishment for an NPB... mainly because it is only seen by eBay and does not affect an eBayer's feedback profile... so it really doesn't help the community...

i have given a user as much as 5 UPIs in one sitting for a non-paying shopping spree but she's still out there ready to bid away!... so I really felt good about giving her 5 negs! now that hit her in the gut so she hasn't made a purchase since then! ]:)

Sorry for bringing this thread back to life.

After having been on ebay for a while, I'm still amazed on how someone with 140+FBs, with 40 positive transactions in a month gets NARU'd.?:|

hi kp!

possible scenario would be that the id of the naru'd member in question is associated with other accounts which may or may not be also naru'd at this time.

as you are aware, there are a lot of ebayers at present (re-registered members, and those with multiple ids who are transacting with each other, mostly) who think they have gone through the loopholes of ebay, but, as a wise ebayer once told me:

"EBAY WILL CATCH UP WITH THEM SOONER OR LATER AND THAT WILL BE THE END...".
